Johnson wins
for 7th time at Dover

Dover, Del. — Jimmie Johnson dominated again and won for the seventh time at Dover International Speedway on Sunday.

Johnson matched Richard Petty and Bobby Allison for most career victories on the 1-mile concrete track. Johnson also stretched the Hendrick Motorsports’ winning streak to three. Johnson won at Darlington Raceway and Kasey Kahne won the Coca Cola 600.

Johnson also won the non-points All-Star race during that span as the No. 48 Chevrolet is heating up as he chases a sixth Cup championship.

Kevin Harvick, Matt Kenseth, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Clint Bowyer rounded out the top five.

Haas wins 3rd Iowa Champions event

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Jay Haas finished with a 16-under 197 total to win the Principal Charity Classic by five strokes on Sunday, becoming the first golfer to win the Champions Tour event in Iowa three times.

Haas, the winner at Glen Oaks Country Club in 2007 and 2008, led by three shots heading into Sunday and made it stand up with a final round 5-under 66.

Haas’s 16-under tied the tournament mark set by Gil Morgan in 2006 and matched the largest victory of the season in the Champions Tour.

Jags’ Blackmon arrested on DUI charge

STILLWATER, Okla. — Jacksonville Jaguars first-round draft pick receiver Justin Blackmon was arrested on an aggravated DUI charge Sunday after authorities in Oklahoma said he had three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

The former Oklahoma State star smelled of alcohol when an officer pulled him over shortly after 3 a.m., Stillwater police spokesman Capt. Randy Dickerson said.

Blackmon agreed to take a breathalyzer test and blew a .24 — three times the legal limit of .08, Dickerson said.

Under Oklahoma law, a driver can be charged with aggravated driving under the influence when a test shows .15 or greater.

Bruins goaltender
to take a year off

BOSTON — Boston Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas says he’ll sit out next season.

Thomas announced on his Facebook page Sunday that he believed that at age 38, it was time to put his time and energy into relationships he says he has neglected. He says he will reconnect with friends, family and faith over the next year.

On Friday, general manager Peter Chiarelli said Thomas told the team he was thinking about sitting out a season.

Thomas played in Finland and broke into an NHL lineup at the age of 32.
